A (Self) Guided Tour of Regional Infrastructure

Quite a few of the things it takes to keep a railway system operating smoothly are not as obvious as the fine station and the busy roundhouse. Visitors to Rivers might want to take a look at a few of the sites mentioned here.

The dam and pumphouse site as well as the nearby Cossar Crossing site can be found by taking the rough road that starts near the east end of town. A short walk towards the river is well worth it in each case.

The beginning of Grant’s Cut and the Bell Crossing site can be accessed by a gravel road going south from Highway #25 just southeast if the Highway Bridge. That road also offers access to a trail that goes under the bridge and along the east side of the river.

The remains of the Rumble Bridge, once the main route into town from Brandon, are just a short distance from Highway #25 west of the river.
