Herbert
Elkanah Powell
In
1893
Mr. Herbert Elkanah Powell came from a small place called Athens, not
far from Brockville, Ontario.
In 1894
Mr. Oscar Day Powell, with his sister, Mrs. Coleman, and her two small
girls, Bernice and Mable Coleman came out from Athens.
The two
brothers, with their sister, settled on the farm known as the Bailey
farm for a short time.
Later
Mr. Oscar Day Powell bought the farm known as the Hyder farm, from Mr.
W. Bone. Mr. Oscar Day Powell married Sarah Smail who came out
from Listowell, Ontario.
Mrs.
Coleman was married to Mr. John May in 1897.
In the
early days the mail was taken out from Killarney to the Hyder post
office.

Elkanah Powell, born 1868, died 1954.
Oscar
Day Powell, born 1873, died 1929.
