Chapman, James

James Chapman was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, January 25, 1860.  Died December 17, 1930.
Wife, Ann Beattie, born in Aberdeen, Scotland, October 13, 1863.  Died May 7, 1901.
In 1889, they bought west half 35-
Children:  Cora Bertha, married Charles Davidson, born Lyonshall district.                                                         
Douglas James, married Minnie Rankin, born Lyonshall district, born July 25, 1891, died June 3, 1053.

Second wife, Margaret Golighty, born Mount Forest, Ontario, August 4, ----, died April, 1952.
James Chapman left Aberdeen, Scotland, with his parents, for Ontario.  Later he moved to Manitoba with his brother, William.  Homesteaded N.E. 35-2-18, later East half 34-2-18 and North half 35-2-18.
He had a log house and sod stables.  Later a frame house and barn.
He hauled grain to Brandon with oxen and later with horses.

Chapman, William

William Chapman was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, December 13, 1853.  He died September 1909.  His wife, Elizabeth Pittilo, was born in Ontario, 1858. 
                                                                                                            
Children:  Betty Jane (who married Robert Beattie) was born Wellington County, Ontario, December 23, 1876.  Died February 20, 1952.

William Pittilo, born Wellington County, Ontario, August 25, 1880.
Second wife, Agnes Rankin, born Lanark, Ontario, February 23, 1874.  Died May 2, 1961.

All the children were born in the Lyonshall district: 

Ida Pearl, married A. J. Rankin.  Born December 15, 1892.  Died 1958.                                                                      
Edith May, married Wm. S. Main.  Born October 10, 1897.                                                                                             
Hazel Blanche, married W. Bruce Mitchell.  Born January 29, 1900.                                                                       
Ruby DeVona, married Roy Robinson. Born July 3, 1902.                                                                                            
Dave Sterling, married Susan McCrae.  Born August 16, 1904.  Died November, 1961.                                       
Harold Melvin.  Born August 6, 1907  Died June, 1963 .

William Chapman left Aberdeen, Scotland, at the age of sixteen, with his parents, for Ontario.  Later moved to Manitoba in 1882, with his brother, James.  Settled at Killarney in the Lyonshall district.  Homesteaded S.E. 34-2-18.  Later moved to East half 27-2-18, where he farmed until his death in September 1909.

He first lived in a log house.  His stable was log with poles and sod for roof.  He later built a stone house, frame barn and frame granary.  The stone house was built in 1899, granary in 1898, and barn in 1903.
Religion – Brethren.  Services were held in Long River School.  Later the family attended the Presbyterian and then the United Church.
William Chapman travelled first with oxen and wagon, later with horse and buggy.  He hauled grain to Brandon with oxen, later with horses.  He was a farmer.
