The Mitchell
Grocery Building occupies a narrow lot on the north side
of
Nelson Street, west of Seventh Avenue, a streetscape of considerable
variety,
which has retained its heritage character even with the addition of
several
modern structures. heart of
Virden’s Heritage District. |

Value

The Mitchell
Grocery Building is one of only two pre-1900 building left
on
this side of the street, and the only one of stone construction. The
building
is valued for its long history as a grocery outlet and with its
connection
to owner/manager A.P. Adams as well for its service as the Oddfellows
Hall
beginning in 1981, and a Lions Hall today.
