A quick look at this map tell us that Manitoba hosts only a fraction of the  Souris River watershed. But Manitoba, specifically Southwestern Manitoba, is where it empties into the Assiniboine on it way to Lake Winnipeg and Hudson's Bay.

This project covers only that short, but interesting, part of the journey.
