The Notable People Inventory
An Inventory is the first important step in a Notable People Project.
A typical inventory will include use the l,ocal histories to creat a
Long List of about 200 individuals who seem to have been worthy of
attention for their role in the community It is important at this stage
of the project that judgements about level of significance be
suspended – an
inventory should
be inclusive and impartial, so that all information is available for
analytical
purposes at later stages of the project.
Analysis of that Long List in consultation with Local Historians will
produce a second, shorter list of perhaps 60 people who have had a
special impact.

Notable
People Projects
The People Inventory
A Significant People Inventory is the first important step in a
Notable
People project.
A typical inventory will include scores of people. It is important at
this stage of the Notable
People project that judgements about significance be suspended –
an
inventory should
be inclusive and impartial, so that all information is available for
analytical
purposes at later stages of the project.
By first conducting an inventory, a community ensures that it has
recognized the achievements of citizens who helped make the community
what it its today. Other important steps included the development of an
education program, including research on individuals and organizations.

The site is not an official record of the projects but represents my
efforts to develop a temporary online component that will help
facilitate additional community input and sharing.
